Housebuilder demands government help for first-time buyers

The chairman of UK housebuilder Redrow has called on the government to extend more assistance to first-time buyers to get the property market moving.

Steve Morgan highlighted the difficulty first-time buye rs face securing mortgage funding, laying the blame firmly at the door of the European regulator, rather than UK lenders.

“We are not blaming the banks,” he said. “This comes down to Basel II and the restrictions on their balance sheet.”

Morgan said the fact that the average age of a first-time buyer with no parental assistance had already reached 37 years old was a ‘sad reflection’, and quoted the latest report from the National Housing Federation which suggests this will increase to 43 years of age for today’s 21 year olds.

He called on the government either to provide tax breaks for first-time buyers, or to set up an insurance indemnity scheme for them which would allow higher loan-to-value lending.

In the past, insurance companies provided Mortgage Indemnity Guarantee cover on higher loan-to-value mortgages. Borrowers paid a premium for cover which protected the mortgage lender in the event of them defaulting on a loan at, say, 85% or 90% loan to value.

However, since the onset of the credit crunch, insurers have withdrawn from this market. As mortgage lenders are now also far more risk-averse, and under Basel II rules have to set aside more capital against higher-risk lending, the availability the of 85%-plus loan to value mortgages favoured by many first-time buyers has plummeted.

Morgan’s comments came as Redrow revealed its return to profit for the first time since H2 2007. In the six months to June 30, the housebuilder made pre-tax profits of £700,000, compared to a loss of £140.8m last year.

A fifth of homebuyers go £23,000 over budget

Unforeseen costs cause 21% of UK homebuyers to go over their initial budget by an average of £23,000, with subsequent spending on the property pushing that figure to over £30,000.

Research carried out by money.co.uk revealed that over a fifth of property purchasers go over the maximum asking price they had initially budgeted for.

What’s more, the average homebuyer spends £8,000 on their property within the first 12 months of purchase, expenditure which many also fail to anticipate.

The study found that, for those who have underbudgeted, 60% of the shortfall comes out of long-term savings. Of the remaining average £13,400, 63%, is paid for using personal loans (15%), credit cards (27%) and extended mortgages (21%).

For many, these are long-term debts, with only 35% paying them off within the first year.

One fifth of homebuyers are currently paying off these debts on top of their monthly mortgage payments.

Chris Morling, managing director of money.co.uk, said:

"These findings demonstrate why methodical planning and budgeting are such important first steps to buying a property. It is all too easy to overlook expenses and end up in a precarious financial position. Households with debt piled upon debt are most likely to be at risk during tough economic times."

Porsche uses electric Boxsters to further hybrid research

Porsche is delving deeper into its electric research with the help of three electric models based off of the Porsche Boxster. Their goal is to combine greater efficiency with even lower fuel consumption and emissions to further development their hybrid concepts such as the 918 Spyder, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, and the new Cayenne S Hybrid. The Cayenne is the first of these hybrid models to run on electric power alone.

Porsche hopes that by testing these three electric Boxsters, they will be able to receive further information on the electric drive components and battery systems for future all-electric vehicles including the Panamera S Hybrid which they hope will enter the market early next year. For right now, there are no production models in sight, but it won’t stay that way for long. Michael Macht, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche AG, says, "We will definitely be offering an electric sports car in future. But such a concept only makes sense if it offers product qualities typical of a Porsche."

Porsche has announced that the 2011 Panamera will get a new brake energy recuperation system featured as standard, together with optional 19-inch all-season tires.

The brake energy recuperation system works by allowing the battery to charge while the brake is being applied. This allows for the alternator current to be relieved of charging the battery during acceleration therefore sending more power to the engine. The new system lowers the fuel consumption by 0.9 liters/100 km. The result is a consumption of 25.0 mpg for the 500 HP top model and 27.4 and 26.7 mpg for the Panamera S and Panamera 4S.

The Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) is now available as an option. PTV Plus optimizes steering behavior by intervening in the brakes on the inner rear wheel in a bend and generating an additional rotational force acting in the same direction as the steering wheel. The result is even more direct and dynamic steering.

Also new for the 2011 model year is a new range of paintwork colors, leather options, and special equipment, including a a three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles and speed limit indicator.

2010 Audi S5 Sportback by Senner Tuning

After receiving the modification for the Audi S5 by Senner Tuning a few months ago, the tuning firm has unveiled a new tuning package for the Audi S5 Sportback. The package is called the Grand Prix and includes not only exterior and interior updates, but engine modifications as well.

In its standard version the S5 Sportback is powered by a 3.0 liter V6 engine that delivers 333 hp and a peak torque of 324 lb.-ft. Senner Tuning has managed to obtain more. The tuner added an ECU remap and a high-flow sports air filter, new stainless steel exhaust system with sport catalytic converters, and a four pipe muffler. The result is a maximum output of 375 Hp and a peak torque of 495 Nm. The top speed limiter has also been removed, however, there are no details on the new top speed. Of course, it is safe to say that the top speed will exceed the previous speed of 155mph.

In addition to these modifications Senner Tuning is also offering a lowered suspension, which reduces the front ride height by 40 mm and the rear ride height by 35 mm. The package is finished by 20" two-piece alloy wheels.

The interior received minor changes consisting of some carbon fiber trimmings and some new tachometers.

Pricing for the new Audi S5 Sportback Grand Prix modification kit has yet to be revealed, but we’ll get back to you as soon as it is.

Russian designer renders BMW Sports Coupe

t’s been about a year since we have been able to feast our eyes on a design created by Russian designer Krasnov Igor. The last creation we saw was the Marussia Muska supercar. Now, in a display of utter extravagance, Igor has unleashed his imagination on a rendering of a BMW supercar.

Named the BMW Sports Coupe, Igor has combined elements of the GINA Light Visionary concept along with classic BMW cues as found in models such as the 328 Roadster. The comparison to the GINA concept is based on the almost seamless outer skin of the BMW Sports Coupe. The skin is a flexible textile cover that stretches across a moveable substructure with functions that are only revealed if and when they are needed. The front of this design seems to be a bulkier version of the front end of the 328 Roadster equipped with the tall double kidney grille.

A radical design, to say the least, but still enough to generate some interesting discussions on whether or not BMW should get into the supercar business. The look seems to be a little extreme for BMW, but let us know what you think!

The last time we have seen the Honda Odyssey was when the Odyssey Concept was unveiled at this year’s Chicago Auto Show. Today, the Odyssey comes back into the spotlight as Honda has officially unveiled the 2011 Odyssey Touring Elite. Featuring a more exclusive appearance and new interior features, the 2011 Odyssey will go on sale this fall, continuing the tradition of the best-selling minivan in the U.S.

The 2011 Honda Odyssey is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with three-mode variable cylinder management that has a fuel economy of 19/28 mpg (City/Highway). It gets a lower roofline (-1.6 inches versus 2010 Odyssey EX) and wider track (+1.4 inches) helping to create a sleeker, stronger, and more dynamic presence with improved aerodynamics.

New exterior improvements include HID front headlights, 18" alloy wheels, ventilated front disc brakes, power side mirrors with integrated turn indicators, and a power tailgate. Toyota Yaris the latest to get the Batmobile treatment

If we had told you that Batman was trading in his swanky Batmobile in an effort to curb his fuel consumption, only to settle on something like this, then you probably are within your rights to officially disown the Caped Crusader as your favorite superhero.

Now, we’re not at all condemning the owner of this Toyota Yaris for his somewhat ridiculous attempt at converting his little hatchback into the Batmobile. Actually, we’re giving him props for his courageousness in driving this car, proving that his level of shame is nowhere near the vicinity of ours.

Then again, we have to call a spade a spade. We’ve seen a lot of wannabee Batmobiles recently, but this one’s got its own place in our Hall of Shame, not only for its disturbing appearance - the fake exhaust, the poorly constructed wings, and that weird "Heroes for Christ" tag on the car’s rear are a few that come to mind - but for being allowed out on the streets in the first place.

Just in case you’ve believed the myth that muscle-bound, sports cars are the fastest way to a woman’s, uhm, heart, then you might reconsider everything you’ve believed before.

According to auto industry research firm TrueCar, women have and continue to be gaga over the Volkswagen New Beetle. That’s right, the cute little bug is a tried-and-tested babe magnet.Another interesting thing TrueCar discovered was that despite outpopulating men by a fairly slim margin - 51% to 49% - in America, 64% of all the registered cars belonged to men while 36% only belonged to women. Despite the skewed figures relative to the population difference, the New Beetle scored fairly well in the eyes of the opposite sex, registered to 56.1% of all the women that were part of the survey.

And just in case you have any one of these other cars, you wouldn’t need to worry about scoring brownie points with the ladies too because they’re also digging these rides: the Nissan Rogue, the Hyundai Tucson, the Volkswagen Eos, and the Volvo S40.

Equity markets in Asia and in Europe are mixed this morning, while US stock indices are moving lower during overnight trade action. The Dollar is moderately stronger against most major currencies, while losing a small amount to the Swiss Franc. In a televised speech, President Obama asked that BP set up an escrow account to pay for damages from an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The European Commission denied reports that the EU, IMF, and US Treasury were setting up a liquidity plan to protect Spanish sovereign debt. An economist for the IMF said that it is in China's best interest to revalue their currency as soon as possible. The French government instituted new austerity measures by raising their retirement age and hiking top-end income taxes. The Japanese Industry Activity Index for April was up 2.1%, lower than expected. The Euro Zone Consumer Price Index for May was up 1.6% year-on-year, in line with expectations. UK Unemployment during April was 7.9%, lower than market forecasts. Today's US economic numbers include May Housing Starts/Permits and the May Producer Price Index at 7:30 AM, with the May Industrial Production report due in at 8:15 AM.

High gold prices not to trim volume growth of ETFs

Volume growth in gold exchange traded funds (ETFs) will not be adversely impacted due to rising gold prices in the domestic and international market. It rather is expected to see an upward trend on the back of uncertainties in the global financial system.

Gold ETFs usually take cue from the rise or fall in the gold prices tandem with price variation of the commodity.

“We don’t see any fall in demand for gold ETFs due to rise in unit prices. Rather, present uncertainties in the global financial market will see more investors taking a safe haven option in gold,” Chirag Mehta, fund manager (commodities) of Quantum Mutual Fund said.

Though Indian consumers are price-sensitive, eroding return on equities will drive them to invest in gold ETFs, he added.

Gold price is hovering above $1,200 an ounce in recent time due to the ongoing debt crisis in the European economies. Further, weakening euro against the dollar and eroding value in the global equities market is also pushing up prices.

According to the World Gold Council estimates, investors bought 5.6 tonnes of gold ETFs in the first quarter of this year worldwide. As a result, the total amount of gold the council monitors in ETFs hit a new record of 1,768 tonnes worth approximately $63.4 billion.

Even Indian investors had showed a sound appetite for the commodity in the special trading session in BSE and NSE during ‘Akshaya Tritiya.’

NSE, alone, had witnessed a turnover of Rs 172.39 crore in comparison to turnover of Rs 20 crore in a normal trading day.

Moreover, Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi) data shows that the total assets under management of gold ETFs crossed Rs 1,700 crore in April compared to Rs 700 crore in April 2009. In April, alone, gold ETFs saw flows of approximately Rs 50 crore.

“Though banks like SBI have floated plans like interest payment on gold deposits with loan against physical gold given by various financial institutions, Gold ETFs will attract investors for its affordability, yield on investment and less risk proposition, Mehta added.

According to market estimates, since its launch in 2007, gold ETFs have emerged as a strong asset class, generating more than 27 per cent return on CAGR(compound annualised growth rate) in the past three years in comparison to just more than 4 per cent returns from the equities market.

“In last few months, investment interests have witnessed an increase to counter the fall in equities market and it is expected to sustain in medium-term,” Tanay Vanushali, an analyst of India Infoline said.

He also said that the rise in gold prices, which was reflected in both spot and future prices of gold ETFs, would not dampen investors’ appetite.

However, some industry experts have a different view on this matter.

“Gold ETF prices are on a slightly higher level now due to rising gold prices, which is restricting new entrants from the market. So, from an investors perspective, it’s better to wait for a correction in the price levels,” Lakhmi Iyer, head(products), Kotak AMC said.

Net volume in gold ETFs turned nega tive in May as Indian investors are pretty price sensitive, she added.

She, however, said that investors with a long-term view of the market should stay invested in the commodity.

General Motors unveils today details on the new 2011 Sierra Denali HD pick-up powered by a new 6.6L Duramax turbo diesel engine. It will be available exclusively for the 2500HD chassis, in a 4WD crew cab standard box configuration.

The new Duramax 6.6 liter turbo diesel V-8 delivers a total of 397 hp at 3,000 rpm and 765 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,600 rpm. The 0-60 mph sprint will be made in less than 9 seconds and quarter-mile in less than 16 seconds in 2500HD models. The engine is mated to a new Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission.

The new Sierra Denali HD is distinguished by a new, three-bar grilles and powertrain-badged louvered hoods, along with a revised, full-width chrome steel front bumper and a new family of 17-, 18- and 20-inch wheels.

2009 Buick Lucerne E85

Starting 2009 GM will add a new E85 Ethanol-Capable model to its line-up: the Buick Lucerne. The Lucerne, the first flex-fuel capable Buick passenger car, will be among more than 15 GM models with flex-fuel capability in 2009, up from 11 offerings this year.

E85 ethanol is a cleaner-burning alternative fuel that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 23 percent compared with gasoline.

The Lucerne is the latest vehicle announced for the 2009 GM FlexFuel lineup. Buick unveiled the 2008 Invincta show car at the Auto China 2008. The four-door midsize sedan with a coupe-like roofline presents a bold direction for Buick’s new generation of vehicles in the world’s two largest vehicle markets – the United States and China.

Invicta has evolved from Buick concepts such as the 2004 Velite convertible and 2007 Riviera coupe, both of which received accolades for their thoroughly modern adaptation of classic Buick themes. Invicta was designed collaboratively by GM centers of expertise in Warren, Michigan, and Shanghai, China. The name, which is Latin for “invincible,” returns to Buick after a 45-year hiatus in the United States.

Invicta is powered by Buick’s first direct injection turbocharged engine, a four-cylinder powerplant that produces 250 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. The engine is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission for maximum fuel efficiency.

For 2009, Buick LaCrosse receives some minor upgrades and new additional features. This should be the last year before Buick redesigns the car for the 2010 model year.

Buick Business Concept

China is the most important market to Buick. It not only sells more cars in the Orient than here, but the unloved by the U.S. Terraza minivan was also a real hit over there. So at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show it revealed a special car with Chinese influence called the Buick Business Concept.

So why is a MPV shown as a business car? Unlike in the U.S. where minivans are the shame of the soccer field, their size is seen as something of prestige in China. As far as design goes, this is a relatively good looking for a minivan. The flowing lines are reminiscent of the Mazda Biante.

For all those minivan fans out there, this may be as close as most of you will get to this Buick. Although production plans and distribution areas have not yet been announced, it’s likely that this will not be a world car for GM.

2010 Buick Excelle XT

While Cadillac may be at the top of the heap as far as General Motors domestic sales are concerned, the Buick brand is surprisingly popular in a few far off markets. Keeping their other customers happy the other upscale arm of GM has just unveiled the all new Excelle XT at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The XT is an interesting vehicle due to its coupe like profile despite being a five door wagon. The new car is slated to go on sale in China in 2010 and is basically an Asian iteration of the European Opel Astra.
The Excelle XT will be offered with a choice of three engines. The top of the line model will be powered by a 1.6 Liter turbocharged four cylinder gasoline engine cranking out 180 HP. We’ve been getting so many April Fools stories, we’re finding it increasingly difficult to determine which stories are legitimate from the ones that are bogus. Fortunately – and after careful reading – this one is completely authentic.

Volvo – not exactly the first brand you’d think of in terms of racing – is entering the new S60 in the Belgian Touring Car Series. No punch lines there.

Naturally, the S60 that will compete in the Belgian TOCA has been modified for racing conditions. It’s been fitted with a racing body kit they’re calling ‘Silhouette S1’, a tubular frame chassis, a modified suspension, and high-performance brakes.

In addition to that, Volvo also modified the S60’s engine to a mid-mounted 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces an output of 410 horsepower and 412 Nm of torque.

Mercedes confirms C-Class Coupe

n an official statement, Mercedes confirmed that a Coupe version for the current C-Class will be unveiled in 2011. It will be produced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen, next to the Saloon, the Estate, and the compact GLK SUV.

"The decision by the Board of Management to produce the Coupe version of the current C-Class here in Bremen as well represents another important milestone on our way to becoming Mercedes’ competence center for the C-Class and is a clear sign of the trust in the Bremen team’s capabilities and standards," says Peter Schabert, Head of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen.

Also, the company announced that the next generation C-Class will be launched in 2014, but first the sedan version will be launched followed by other C-Class model variants.

Subaru unveiled the 2011 Impreza WRX STI today at the New York Auto Show. For the first time the WRX STI will be offered in two body versions, 5-door and 4-door and comes with new design and significantly revised suspension tuning and lighter 18-inch wheels for even sharper handling.

The biggest changes are made on the exterior. Up front it gets sharpened bumper corners and wider, blacked-out fog lamp, a lip spoiler with three-dimensional detailing, a newly designed front grille with black base and blacked-out Subaru wing. The exterior package is finished by newly designed wider rear fenders.

f yesterday at New York Auto Show Hyundai unveiled the 2011 Sonata Hybrid and 2011 Sonata 2.0T, today they brought the 2011 Equus luxury sedan. It will compete with models like Lexus LS 460 and Mercedes-Benz S550 and will go on sale with a starting price in the mid $50,000 range.

The 2011 Equus share the same architecture as the Genesis sedan, but its 7.2 inches longer. It is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 engine that delivers 385 HP and 333 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a ZF 6-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC manual control.

2012 Volkswagen Beetle - new details revealed

Volkswagen is currently preparing the next generation Beetle city car. It will be previewed by a concept version in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show with a production version to follow in 2011.

The 2012 Beetle will be built on a new chassis with wider tracks and a longer wheelbase and will feature MacPherson struts suspensions at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. Engine line-up will include a 105bhp 1.2, a 160bhp 1.4 and a 210bhp 2.0 liter. The US market will also get a 170bhp 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. Diesel line-up will include the new 105bhp 1.6 and a 140bhp 2.0 liter.

In an interview with AutoCar, a Volkswagen insider said: "It is more contoured, with additional structuring and defined feature lines used to help to break up the simple surfacing and unadorned character of the current model. The screen angles are less extreme and the roof structure is less rounded than it is at the moment."

McLaren plans Porsche 911 competitor and F1 successor

At yesterday’s MP4-12C unveiling, Ron Dennis, McLaren’s CEO, declared that the company is planning on building a new sports car that will compete with models like Porsche 911 while also tinkering with the possibility of releasing a successor to the F1 supercar.

In addition to that, if the MP4-12C will be a successful model, McLaren will also produce new versions of the sports car, most probably a convertible and a more powerful version. But Dennis also was adamant in saying that McLaren will never change their philosophy, meaning that models like SUVs or hybrid cars will probably be not included in the company’s line-up anytime soon.

The first units of the 12C will be delivered to customers in Europe in the spring of 2011, followed by a phased distribution to retailers in the Middle-East and South Africa, North America and Asia-Pacific. McLaren Automotive’s long-term strategy is to sell a range of around 4,000 high-performance sports cars by the middle of the decade. This will account for around three and four percent of the global market for premium sports cars.

The great thing about SEMA that other auto shows can’t boast of is that you can find vehicles that are so out of the ordinary it begs for more than a few double takes. Take this truck from Dunkel Industries for example.

In as many words: it’s huge!

We don’t know whether this one’s for the books, but we do know that at 32 ft long, almost 9 ft wide, and 12 ft tall, it ranks right up there among the short list of enormous trucks that have made an appearance at SEMA. Dunkel Industries calls it the Luxury 4x4 (duh!) and if you take a closer look, you’ll notice that it’s a hybrid of a pick-up truck and an RV that has been fused together. By using a Ford F-650/F-750 chassis on the Luxury 4x4, Dunkel Industries was able to make a truck so big it really has no need for a trailer anymore.

Man crashes Toyota Tundra into a dealership because of lack of customer assistance

It’s a bad time to be a Toyota owner these days. After news broke out last week that Toyota was being forced to recall over 1 million cars globally due to those sticky accelerator pedals, the Japanese-based auto giant has gone into full scale damage control, giving Toyota owners a chance to return their Toyota vehicles to a Toyota dealership where they’d undergo free repairs to fix the faulty pedals.

Mikel Valviva decided to return his recalled Toyota Tundra in one of the local dealerships in his area, but after being told that he would have to wait to get his Tundra fixed, Valvina took matters into his own hands. Instead of patiently waiting for his turn, Valvina “somehow” accelerated his Tundra straight into the dealership.

While it seems ridiculous to accuse someone of deliberately crashing his vehicle into a dealership because he felt disrespected, this whole situation involving Toyota and all these faulty accelerator pedals have left everybody in a constant state of confusion.

As far as Valvina’s supposed accidental torpedoing of the Toyota dealership, local authorities have indicated that the whole incident could very well have been unintentional. Or maybe the accelerator pedal just got stuck.

2011 Mercedes E300 BlueTEC Hybrid

Mercedes unveiled their first ever hybrid diesel model at the Geneva Motor Show. The E 300 BlueTEC combines a a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine developing 204 hp with a powerful hybrid module. Sales will begin at the end of 2011.

The 4-cylinder diesel engine in combination with a 15 KW compact electric motor deliver a total of 224 hp and a torque of over 580 Nm. All this with a fuel consumption of 4.1 liters of fuel per 100 km (NEDC), equivalent to CO2 emissions of 109 g/km.

The electric motor gets its energy from a high-voltage, lithium-ion battery, which has already proven itself in the S 400 Hybrid.

Maybach May See the End of the Line

Cosmetic surgery is quite popular nowadays. In fact, even Mercedes’ luxury brand, Maybach, will be seeing a little bit of a facelift before its ultimate descent into the automobile graveyard. As the next generation of the Mercedes S class gets taken to the next level, Maybach will turn into a thing of the past, but not before getting some new grilles and LED lights on its current three models. After the Maybach’s debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April, sources say that Mercedes will let the brand slip away into darkness and bring to light the new, higher tech S class.

The new S class is said to debut in 2014 and are rumored to contain many of the features found in the F800. The technologies include:

Traffic Jam Assist: A cruise control system that accelerates and decelerates by itself and can even follow turns up to 25MPH.

Range on Map System: Shows about how far the car can travel as a 360-degree graphic.

HMI Control System: This unique technology will record the hand gestures of the driver so it can then interpret the applications the driver wants to operate.

Multi-Drive Platform: Can be fitted with either a hydrogen fuel cell or plug-in hybrid system.

Bentley Mulsanne and Continental Supersport configurator

If you have some spare time - really, who can’t spare a few minutes on this - Bentley is offering you the chance to configure the new Mulsanne or the new Continental Supersports (both coupe and convertible models). Who know, maybe you’ll find the right color you want and end up buying either one of these two luxury cars!

As a refresher, the 2011 Mulsanne luxury limousine will go on sale in the U.S. market this fall for a princely sum of $285,000 whereas the the Continental Supersports coupe, which will go on sale sometime in June, is priced at $267,000 and the convertible version going for around $300,000.

We’re not fully expecting anyone to actually buy any of these three cars after playing mix-and-match on this configurator, but at the very least, it should be a good way to spend some of your idle time on.

After all, whoever said that configurating your imaginary Bentley is a waste of time.

Toyota has been in the headlines about as much as Tiger Woods has in recent times, and although both situations have large doses of shock and disappointment to it, we’re finding it extremely hard for Toyota - with their escalating number of recalls that have put many lives in danger - to get off as easy as Woods has. No amount of public apology and a two-month stint in therapy can reverse the damage Toyota has taken from this crisis.

As a matter of fact, Toyota is currently getting sued by dozens of Toyota owners in the Washington and Arizona area for a full refund on the affected models. Attorney Steve Berman is on the case and is taking these lawsuits to a class action status.

"When we talked with Toyota owners, they all voiced the same desire — to drive the car back to the lot, hand them the keys and pick up a check," said Berman, who is based in Seattle. "Fortunately, we think the law allows for exactly that solution, and we are asking the courts to make it happen."

The Japanese automaker Lexus has finally revealed a few details about their entry level 2010 ES350 luxury sedan. Nissan to build Murano SUVs in Russia beginning in 2011

The Nissan Murano SUV is scheduled to be built at Nissan’s St. Petersburg production facility in Russia, the Japanese automaker recently announced.

This is good news for Nissan and the employment line in the St. Petersburg plant, which will see an increase in job opportunities sometime in June to accommodate the impending production start of the Murano sometime in 2011. According to Nissan, the decision to produce the Murano SUV in St. Petersburg, which will then be sold exclusively in Russia, will result in a spike in employment from 850 employees to about 1,450 employees. In addition to that, Nissan is planning to add a second shift to expedite the production of all the models being built in St. Petersburg.

As it stands, Nissan has sold around 9,000 Muranos in Russia since the SUV made its debut in the country a little over four years ago and with the production of the car being done in local soil, the company expects to see an upswing in sales in the near future.

Chrysler’s official tuner is offering their customers $2,000 in "Mopar Bucks," which they may use to buy select performance parts, service contracts and accessories.

The package includes, among other things, a unique body-color hood with scoop, a body-color rear "Go-Wing" spoiler and strobe stripe performance graphics. For the interior Mopar included a Mopar-branded T-handle shifter, a bright pedal kit (automatic only), bright door-sill guards, premium carpet floor mats and a full-vehicle cover.

And if you’re willing to shell out a few extra bucks, you can also get a rear deck-lid spoiler (MSRP $316), decal kits (MSRP starting at $182), cat-back exhaust systems (MSRP starting at $1,190) and a classic Mopar T/A hood (MSRP $1,275).

While GM is still waiting for the official debut of the Camaro Convertible - much to our delight - spy shots continue to reveal more and more of the car. Our latest batch of spy shots of the Camaro Convertible comes from one very lucky guy who caught the car testing at the most unusual of places - a stop light. Even better, he managed to chat up the driver of the Camaro and got confirmation that the car will go on sale next April.

The Convertible version will be offered in the same three trims as the coupe version: LS, LT and SS.

The LS and LT models will be offered with an advanced 3.6 liter direct-injected V-6 engine with variable valve timing and a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions while the SS model will come with a 6.2L V8 – including fuel-saving Active Fuel Management on automatic-equipped combination – and a six-speed manual transmission.
